Meet Lou our Finance Officer
(that’s code for NDIS claims wizard)
This week we introduce you to Lou who works hard behind the scenes to support families and our NDIS team to ensure our service is seamless and efficient.
I love working in Finance. I enjoy working with numbers and the attention to detail and accuracy it requires. I am extremely grateful to work in a job I love, for a wonderful organisation with such supportive and caring colleagues who value and appreciate my work and contributions.
NDIS and its constant changes means every day can be different and this is something I embrace and know will help both myself and Firstchance to grow and continue to support families in our community.
When are you the most happiest at work?
I am happy when I have the opportunities to meet some of our families. I recently participated in the Mad Science group and was able to interact with the children and their families. It was also great to be able to observe the amazing work our staff do, and the interactions our therapy staff have with children and their families.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a hairdresser or chef.
I enjoy cooking and especially enjoy cooking for others, but I think that is as close as I will get to the chef dream 🙂
As for the hairdressing, my family are very happy I leave that to the experts 🙂
What does a Finance Officer do at Firstchance?
I am a Finance Assistant and my main role is to process NDIA claims on behalf of our families. I am based in the Finance Office at Firstchance. As well as processing NDIA claims, I also keep a track of the progress of funding for all of our NDIA family’s plans. I work closely with our therapy team in a support role.
What is your favourite thing to do in your time?
Apart from cooking one of the other things I really enjoy, and is relaxing for me, is scrapbooking. It is also a great motivator to display a lot of our family photos and memories.
A family activity I love is when we decide to get in the car and go for a family drive. Sometimes we have plans for where we are going, other times we just get in the car and see where we end up. Regardless of where we end up, we always have a lot of fun getting there and creating family memories doing so.
