Growing Through Play: Izzy’s Story

For Izzy, joining the Firstchance ten-pin bowling group was more than just fun—it was a turning point. Guided by the F-Words for Child Development framework, our team worked with Izzy and her family to identify what mattered most. Together, they chose to focus on Function (building skills for real-life activities), Family (creating opportunities for shared experiences), and Future (helping Izzy participate confidently in community life).

Through this strengths-based approach, Izzy developed the skills and confidence to join her family in an activity they could enjoy together. Her mum, Bec, shared:
“These holidays, we went bowling twice and had a meal together—it was really lovely and only possible because of the group program.”

The impact didn’t stop there. Izzy’s progress meant her brother could host a bowling birthday party that included her—strengthening family bonds and social connections. This is resilience in action: growing through play, connection, and shared joy.
