Why the F-Words Matter at Firstchance

At Firstchance, we’ve embraced the F-Words for Child Development—a framework created by Dr. Peter Rosenbaum and Dr. Jan Willem Gorter from CanChild. Why? Because it perfectly reflects what matters most to us: supporting children and families in ways that are individualised, strengths-based, family-centred, and culturally responsive.

By using the F-Words Life Wheel in our everyday work, we’ve found new ways to listen deeply, plan thoughtfully, and respond meaningfully. It’s a tool that celebrates strengths, amplifies the voice of the child, and honours the lived experiences of families—a true example of resilience in action.
